Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering 2021

Note: This offering is being promoted and collected in January 2022.

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory,
are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory,
which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:18

Through RMMO, we hope you are inspired to give to those who continue to transform and embody the spirit of Christ—and may we each be transformed by the opportunity to be generous in giving.

Say “thank you” to retired pastors and missionaries who have served American Baptist churches and ministries for 15 years or more through your gift to the 2021 Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering (RMMO).

There are pastors who have supported you (see two examples below) and those you love directly in seeking Jesus Christ, while all missionaries serve as our collective hands and hearts in projects throughout the country and around the world.

The American Baptist denomination is strong today because of those who have devoted themselves to serving our more than 1.2 million members in prior decades.

Letters from RMMO Recipients (as received for last year’s promotion):

Letter from Lyle Lee:

The church in Marion always brings smiles and joy to me. It certainly was the happiest years of my ministry. My love for you all never dims. I sent a thank you note to the church a couple of weeks ago when I received this year’s “Thank You Gift” from the M&M.

As you know, the offering is divided two ways during the year: half for special needs of ABC ministers and half for Christmas gifts to the retired ABC ministers. I learned about the first part while in Marion when my son needed a back harness for scoliosis. I hadn’t even asked for it. A pastor friend called them and a check was sent to cover the cost! How timely that was! When I retired in Florida, I traveled the state for several weeks on behalf of the M&M visiting the retired pastors. I got to know how valued and thankful they were for these gifts. It always brings back the memories of the churches and friends that made their ministries so worthwhile. May God’s Blessings always be with you. I send my love to you all.

Letter from Jerry Springston:

Dear Friends in Christ,
This week [as written on November 18] Terri and I received a Thank You check from the American Baptist Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board. A Thank You check has come to us this time of the year ever since I retired from pastoral ministry fifteen years ago. It comes as the result of the annual December Retired Ministers & Missionaries Offering which you have received for decades. Thank you! It is much appreciated.

Following God’s call does not come without certain sacrifices. Retired ministers, missionaries, and their widowed spouses are often faced with the stress and hardship of unexpected expenses. Medical problems, relocating, or the death of a spouse can also cause these leaders to find themselves far from the church family that once supported them.

The assistance provided by RMMO restores that lifeline and ongoing connection to the ABCUSA family.

The RMMO offering is being collected at First Baptist, Marion, IA, during the month of January 2022. The Outreach committee has set a goal of $700.

Please support the RMMO by contributing whatever amount you can to say “Thank You” to those who serve. Even small gifts make a difference and contribute to our collective gratitude.

Checks should be mailed to First Baptist Church, 1260 29th St, Marion, IA 52302.

You can give online through our church’s e-giving platform by clicking on the Give button and selecting RMMO on the “To:” pulldown.

Thank you for your donation to help retired ministers, missionaries and their widowed spouses.
