Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering 2023

This offering is being promoted and collected in December 2023.

The theme for RMMO 2023 from Psalm 112:5 is: Good will come.

Goodness comes from the pastors, missionaries and leaders who have served ABCUSA churches and ministries. Good will come back to each of them in the form of a thank you check – a tangible expression of our enduring gratitude for their service.

RMMO is always about celebrating, thanking, and lifting up our servant leaders. The offering originated in the mid-1930s as the Communion Fellowship Offering and since 1977 has been known as RMMO. The RMMO funds your church collects are distributed as thank you checks to retired ordained ministers and commissioned missionaries who have devoted 15 years or more to ABCUSA, as well as surviving spouses. A certain portion of funds is also allocated for direct emergency assistance. With gift revenue from the RMMO 2022 offering, 3,332 thank you checks were distributed averaging $154, a tangible expression of our enduring gratitude for their service. For all the Goodness they’ve brought, let’s do this for them again this year.

We all remember the pastor or missionary who made a difference in our lives. The ones who were with us in the big moments and small. With leadership, listening, wisdom, condolence or just the right prayer when needed most, their selfless service has a lasting effect. The Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering (RMMO) is a way to give back.

Say “thank you” through your gift to the 2023 Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering.

There are pastors who have supported you (see the letters from former pastors below) and those you love directly in seeking Jesus Christ, while all missionaries serve as our collective hands and hearts in projects throughout the country and around the world.

RMMO Greetings from Julie Bobzien (Randy’s wife) dated December 6, 2023:

I received a check in the mail from RMMO and a note with it that stated “with sincere appreciation for your service to American Baptists.”  Although I’m the beneficiary of the fund it’s  in honor and memory of Randy that it’s given.  I so appreciate those that have given to this fund and honor his memory in a variety of ways.

So, I want to say thank you for your support – financial and otherwise, your prayers and your concern during a difficult time.  I have so many pleasant memories of the time Randy and I spent at First Baptist of Marion.

God bless you,
Julie Bobzien

Letter from Jerry Springston dated December 10, 2023:

Dear Friends in Christ,

For forty-five years now, the American Baptist Churches’ Ministers & Missionaries Benefit Board has asked congregations that they receive a special offering during the month of December for the purpose of providing retired pastors and missionaries emergency funds throughout the year, along with a “Thank You” gift at Christmas for past services.

Terri and I have appreciated that kind gesture for the past eighteen years of our retirement. Each time the “RMMO” check arrives in the mail box, we offer a prayer of thanks to God in remembrance of you dear folks at the First Baptist Church of Marion.

Jerry & Terri Springston

Letter from Kay Nelson (Rev. Robert Nelson) dated December 10, 2023:

Dear members of First Baptist Church,
As one of many, many recipients of the RMMO offering, I want to thank you from all of us for your caring and your generosity. It means a lot to be remembered, especially this time of year.

I hope you all have a blessed Christmas. I will be spending the holidays in Chicago with my family. (I’m a great-grandmother of 3 now!)

Thank you so much.
Kay Nelson

Please consider prayerfully supporting the Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering this month.  Thank you!  Blessings.

This short video provides an overview of RMMO.

Following God’s call does not come without certain sacrifices. Retired ministers, missionaries, and their widowed spouses are often faced with the stress and hardship of unexpected expenses. Medical problems, relocating, or the death of a spouse can also cause these leaders to find themselves far from the church family that once supported them.

The assistance provided by RMMO restores that lifeline and ongoing connection to the ABCUSA family.

The RMMO offering is being collected at First Baptist, Marion, IA, during the month of December 2023.

Please support the RMMO by contributing whatever amount you can to say “Thank You” to those who serve. Even small gifts make a difference and contribute to our collective gratitude. Our goal is $800.

Checks should be placed in the offering plate (RMMO envelopes are provided in the pew racks) or mailed to First Baptist Church, 1260 29th St, Marion, IA 52302.

You can give online through our church’s e-giving platform by clicking on the Give button and selecting RMMO on the “To:” pulldown.

Thank you for your donation to help retired ministers, missionaries and their widowed spouses.
